Problem Identifier Unit Screen//v.w/ RR Template Bird Damage

Problem
Ripened figs have holes in them and may be partially eaten. They may have been knocked to the ground. Birds may be seen feeding on ripening figs.

Analysis
Some birds feed heavily on ripening figs. When the fruit is fully ripe, birds peck at the soft flesh, leaving holes in the fruit. The wounded figs may decay, becoming inedible.

Solution
You can save many of your figs by harvesting daily. Check the tree every morning, and harvest those figs that have ripened. Nets thrown over the tree are also effective in reducing bird damage. Nets may be purchased at your local nursery or hardware store.
